Chatbot Flow: a practical definition for business teams

A chatbot flow is the planned sequence of prompts, choices, conditions and handoffs in a conversation. Good flows include incomplete answers, changes of mind and the option not to provide contact details. They do not assume every visitor should end in a sales form.

A business example

An appointment flow first identifies the service, then a preferred time and an optional contact method. It states that staff confirms availability instead of pretending a request is an already booked slot.

What to check in a real deployment

Write the happy path and failure branches side by side. Check missing knowledge, a declined contact request and an unsupported action. Review the saved summary, not only the visible wording.

Apply the definition to a useful customer next step

Write down what the visitor should learn and what happens after the conversation. Check the approved source, optional contact purpose and receiving person responsibilities. A technical label is not evidence that a specific integration, quality guarantee or business result exists.
